Mohonk Mountain, the Mohonk Mountain Preserve and Sky Top are the most distinct landmarks of the area. Sky Top tower appears to watch ove the village of New Paltz and in a manner, it does. Originally built as a tower for spotting fires, the view on a clear day will give you a look at five states.
The Mohonk Mountain Preserve has over 70 miles of maintained trails for hiking, biking, rock climbing, running and horseback riding and is open to all for a minimal fee. The area has been referred to as "the Boulder Colorado of the East." We believe it is even better...
Rare vegetation and wildlife are found in the preserve and an educational center is open to all for free.
The Minnewaska State Park is connected to the Preserve and offers over 12,000 more acres of preserved nature that can be enjoyed by foot or bike. Two glacial lakes, beautiful waterfalls and sunsets punctuate the natural beauty of the area.
