The Village of New Paltz is a college town with a history of self expression. Here can be found over 45 restaurants offering ethnic and American foods from steaks to vegan cuisine. Musicians can frequently be heard on the sidewalks and in pubs and resaturants. Unique boutiques and artisan shops line the streets and offer an interesting mix of retail.

The village, town and university are continually offering events that are open to the public. Concerts featuring blues, jazz, and classical music are usually available to those wish to attend. The yearly Ulster County Fair, and the semi-annual Arts and Crafts Fair bring thousands to the area.
Just outside the Village is Unison Arts Center. A locally run non-profit art center which this year is hosting it's eighth annual sculpture garden.
