What is "an active retreat?"

X-Country Skiing Close to Home

We are frequently asked, "What is an active retreat?"

Being people who subscribe to a lifestyle filled with running, hiking, swimming , biking, kayaking, skiing...the list goes on....we realized there was a void in the lodging community that needed to be addressed.  Downhill skiers and snow boarders have ski lodges; how about the rest of us busy people?

The Hungry Ghost Guest House offers a location that makes enjoying all these things easy and brings like-minded people together.  The rail trail is 1/2 mile east on our cul-de-sac'd road; the Mohonk Preserve is 300 yards west of our driveway;  the Village is a 15 minute trail ride by bike. River kayaking is one mile east and hiking begins at the front door.  How many places can offer you  treadmills, wind trainers, and indoor housing for your bike if it rains?

Of course, relaxing at the end of the day is an activity in itself and we haven't forgotten that.  An indoor wood burning fireplace crackles on cool evenings and if the stars are what you're looking for, a copper fire pit and log seating are available on the back lawn. A nap in the hammock or lounge chairs is a must, but only after a good long soak in the hot tub...an outdoor shower is available for a quick rinse.
